Why We’re Saying Goodbye to Meal Delivery
After seven years of cooking our hearts out and delivering meals to your front doors, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close our meal delivery service.
This isn’t happening because of a lack of demand. In fact, we’re stepping away while things are going well—routes full, meals polished, loyal clients showing up week after week. And that’s what makes this even harder.
But here’s the truth: behind the scenes, we were never able to find a version of this business that was truly sustainable. We’ve spent the last five years working 100-hour weeks, skipping vacations, pouring everything into the kitchen—and still, we’ve never been able to pay ourselves. Not once.
The cost of food has soared. The cost of labor has soared. And we’ve never been willing to compromise on the values we care most about:
– Paying our team a true living wage
– Cooking with the best ingredients
– Doing things the right way, even when it’s the hard way
We want to be very clear: this isn’t a failure. This has been a deeply meaningful, wild, fulfilling chapter—full of lessons, grit, and growth. The meal delivery arm of our business might be closing, but Fat Rabbit Provisions is still very much alive.
We’re now focusing on the things we love most: catering, small bites, grazing tables, celebrations, creativity. We’ll also be offering some limited seasonal goods, pantry boxes, and a few one-off specials as we transition.
This post isn’t about sympathy—it’s about transparency. It’s about honoring the very real challenges that small food businesses face. Most of the places you love are powered not by big profits, but by big hearts. So when you can:
– Be kind.
– Tip well.
– Respect prices.
The service industry is full of some of the most hardworking, generous, passionate people we’ve ever met. We’re so proud to be part of that community.
And most of all—we’re grateful. To every single person who ordered, referred, encouraged, or even just asked “what’s for dinner?”—thank you. You’ve been a part of something special.
We’ll be sharing more soon. Until then, thank you for being here. Thank you for letting us feed you. And thank you for helping Fat Rabbit become what it is today.
With love,
Carey, Andrew, and the whole Fat Rabbit crew 🐇
